Primarily staffed by women volunteers, gentlemen were able to purchase tags to be worn on the clothing that indicated that they participated in this institution of civic generosity. Some later tag days were run to provide funding for civic initiatives, but the institution is primarily associated with the type of fundraising currently conducted through the sale of poppy pins.
