Update on the VGH SON Alumnae Gifted Steinway Grand Piano

We wanted to share with you some wonderful news on the Steinway grand piano in Sassafras that was gifted many years go by VGH School of Nursing Alumnae member Mrs. E.T. Rogers that was advised to us by The VGH Foundation . The VGH Foundation had reached out to Pacey’s Pianos look at and tune the piano, and they also agreed to cover the Technicians costs. There were a few additional repairs needed and the VGH Facility and Maintenance Dept was also contacted to help with reattaching the lid hinges. The Foundation contacted the Manager of the Sassafras cafeteria, and she kindly offered to cover any additional costs.

They wanted to let you know that this gift of music from Mrs. Rogers is still going strong —the piano was made in 1901!— and it is being enjoyed by many staff members including a nurse who plays it in her breaks and shared her appreciation:

“Now that it’s playable, it truly fills the space with warmth, joy, and a sense of calm. It’s incredible how something so simple can uplift the atmosphere.”

The VGH SON Alumnae Association would like to extend a huge thank you and appreciation to the VGH Foundation for all their assistance with this, and everything else they do for our association.
